This bear and cubs were attempting to cross a road in Yellowstone, to reach a river. They were prowling up and down a bit no doubt trying to work out where to get through the crowds watching them.

I hand-held my 500mm lens in the rain, sitting on the ground to stabilize the lens on my knee. I got a bit wet, but it was worth it for this shot.

We left and came back a little later. The bear and cubs had crossed the road and were eating beside the river. Eventually, they swam across and ran (fast) across the meadow the other side and up a nearby hill.
